Landscape professionals! Do your or your staff:

-Have 3+ years of experience in landscape lighting installation and/or service work?

-Want to stand out against competitors & be the go-to exterior lighting company?

Then you’re eligible to take the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP) Certified Low-Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) exam!

WHAT IS CLVLT?

Despite the number of exterior lighting companies, and the size of our industry, there are no clearly defined national standards for low voltage outdoor lighting. In most states, the test given to license low voltage contractors has little or nothing to do with the actual work that they perform. AOLP feels this lack of standards has a profound impact on the safety and quality of services that lighting professionals provide.

To address this gap in our collective knowledge, AOLP has created the Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) exam, a standardized certification test that measures the knowledge and capabilities of lighting professionals, specifically designed for 12-volt systems. AOLP is of the opinion that holding the outdoor lighting community to a higher standard improves the quality, safety, and profitability of all exterior lighting companies. It is our request that you consider certifying yourself or your technicians in an effort to invest in your future, as well as the continued growth of our industry.

This exam is for experienced technicians and should not be taken lightly. The CLVLT exam consists of six (6) sections that include written and/or hands-on elements. Your digital study guides will be mailed to each registrant within two weeks after the successful receipt and processing of your registration and payment. There are no training sessions prior to testing, so it is strongly encouraged to study the materials.

AOLP’s goal is to help each participant become a CLVLT. To assist registrants, there is a one hour video study session the morning of the exam. Additionally, a list of fellow registrants will be shared with you with the goal of forming study groups ahead of the exam.

Students may fail up to three (3) sections and retake those sections the same day at a cost of $50 per section. If you fail more than three (3) sections, you must take the exam over at another date and will be required to pay the full registration amount again. Upon receiving a passing grade, applicants are listed as Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians (CLVLT). The certification is good for two (2) years at which time a renewal fee of $50 will be required along with a total of twelve (12) CECs.
