How to Maintain CLVLT

Earning Continuing Education Credits (CECs)

To maintain your Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) certification you must earn and document a minimum of 12 CECs every two years and pay the biennial renewal fee. Please see under Eligible Continuing Education Credits (CECs) below for a listing of ways to earn credits as well as the amount of credit each activity is worth. A minimum of six (6) CECs per renewal period must be lighting related.

How to Submit Your CECs & Renewal Payment

To renew your CLVLT certification, please download and complete the CLVLT CECs Record Form. All CEC records must be completed and signed to be accepted.

Once you have completed and signed your CEC Record, complete the submission form below and submit your signed CLVLT CECs Record Form along with your renewal payment.

Eligible Continuing Education Credits (CECs)

Attend AOLP Annual Conference & Expo
Attend full conference and educational seminars held during conference. Six (6) CECs.
Attain Additional Lighting Certifications
Must request preapproval from the CLVLT committee. Two (2) to six (6) CECs
Serve as Moderator/Host on CLVLT Zoom Study Session
One (1) CEC per session (typically one hour calls).
Serve on an AOLP Committee

Must attend 80% of meetings and be a contributing member. Six (6) CECs / +1 additional CEC per year for serving as committee chair.

Teach a Lighting Seminar/Class
One (1) CEC per seminar/class.
Conduct a Lighting Presentation at a Seminar or Technical Conference
Can be presented at national/regional/state associations or agencies, universities or technical schools, green/lighting industry organizations, etc. Three (3) CECs
New Member Referral

Applicant must list your name on his/her membership application and you must list his/her name on your CEC form. Two (2) CECs per new member. Limit 6 CECs/year.

Serve as a CLVLT Test Proctor or COLD Instructor
Six (6) CECs per full test event proctored.
Attend a Lighting Educational Seminar, Course, Trade Show, Field Day, or Technical Conference
These experiences can be sponsored by AOLP, IESNA, ALA, state/regional industry association, federal or state agency, etc. One (1) CEC per session.
Write/Publish article(s) for AOLP LightLines Newsletter
Submit and be published in LightLines (Contact AOLP for submission guidelines). One (1) CEC per article.
Reading of Industry Related Books or Articles
A written review of the book or article must be submitted for CEC credit. One (1) CEC
Attend Business Courses or Seimars
Course must be directly related to the performance of your job responsibilities. One (1) CEC per four hours of class. Limit 4 CECs/year.
Serve as a CLVLT Mentor
Three (3) CECs per year.
Attend an In-House Manufacturer/Distributor/Industry Lighting Course
One (1) CEC per class. With prior written approval by CLVLT Committee Chairman, some classes may be worth up to 3 points. No point limit.
Teach an In-House Lighting Course
Two (2) CECs per course taught. Limit 4 CECs/year.
Participate in AOLP Field Day Project
Three (3) CECs. Limit 3 CECs/year.
Judge a Lighting Competition
These competitions can be conducted by AOLP, ALA, IESNA, national/regional/state associations or agencies, universities or technical schools, green/lighting industry organizations, etc. One-half (1/2) CEC per hour of judging.
Regular Contributor to AOLP LinkedIn Member Forum with Substantive Monthly Postings of Significant Content
Two (2) CECs. Limit 2 CECs/year.
Reading of Committee-Approved Books or Articles
One (1) to three (3) CECs for reading one of the books or articles pre-approved by the Certification Committee. CLVLTs may petition the CLVLT Committee to review and assign CEC value to books not currently on the list. Limit 3 CECs/year.
